What is F@bR1c?
F@bR1c is an immersive experience educating our community about the hidden impact that the current trends in fashion consumerism have on the environment and workers involved in the production chain. The piece is an interactive digital installation that showcases a 3D modelled quilt. The quilt is made out individual pieces of clothing stitched together to represent different stories of real people and places that have experienced the negative impacts of fast fashion. Fashion has become increasingly commodified with little to no regard for the impact on the environment and those working in the industry.
By turning the quilt into an immersive virtual experience, it will be more accessible than an installation, especially considering the COVID-19 barrier. (Future iterations of this project might include a physical installation.)
We chose to tell the stories of real human experiences that are more accessible our audience than just statistics. By making a connection to the real people, we hope people are compelled to make a change.
